The history of new media


In today's Internet world the phrase "New Media" means the Internet, the World-Wide-Web, the broadband Internet connection etc. But with all media, there had to be a time when the media was new to some one.

  1833:   Newpapers are mass marketed.
  1838:   First telegraph message transmitted.
  1844:   Photography becomes popular.
  1876:   Telephone invented.
  1891:   Early motion picture camera invented.
  1901:   First radio signal sent across the Atlantic.
  1907:   Theory of television developed in Russia.
  1914:   First transcontinental telephone call.
  1927:   First "talking" motion pictures.
  1939:   Television goes public at Worlds Fair.
  1950:   Colour television broadcast begins.
